Ontario homeowners can get Canada eooENERGY
grants for increasing home insulation.

Attic insulation — Ontario
Ontario homeowners can get Government of Canada ecoENERGY grants
for increasing attic or roof insulation.
- $750 —
attic insulation - increase from a starting point
of up to R12, to achieve total minimum insulation value
of R-50 (RSI 8.81)
- $500 —
attic insulation - increase from a starting point
of up to R12, to achieve total minimum insulation value
of R-40 (RSI 7.04)
- $375 —

of up to R25, to achieve total minimum insulation value
of R-50 (RSI 8.81)

of up to R25, to achieve total minimum insulation value

Grant amounts listed above are for insulating
100 per cent of the ceiling area.
Grants are pro-rated for less than 100 per cent
coverage. At least 20 per cent of total
ceiling area must be insulated to qualify.
Grant amounts may vary in homes with mixed roof types.*
* Mixed roof types: When the roof has more than one
type (i.e. attic, cathedral ceiling, flat
roof), all applicable grants are
pro-rated
based on the ceiling area that is insulated.
The maximum grant for any combination of attic,
cathedral ceiling and flat roof is $750.
Grants listed reflect 100 percent of the ceiling
area being of one roof type.

Roof insulation — Ontario
Get Canadian government rebates when you increase the
insulation value of 100 per cent of your flat roof or cathedral ceiling
(see note above regarding mixed roof types*).

Exterior wall insulation — Ontario
Get government rebates in Ontario when you increase the
insulation value of your exterior walls (see note below regarding
row and semi-detached houses**).
Increase your exterior wall insulation by
more than R-9 and get:
- $1,875 — exterior wall
insulation for 100%
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-9
- $1,500 — exterior wall
insulation for 80%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-9
- $1,125 — exterior wall
insulation for 60%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-9
- $750 — exterior wall
insulation for 40%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-9
- $375 — exterior wall
insulation for 20%+

Increase exterior wall insulation by a
minimum of R-3.8 and get:
- $1,125 — exterior wall
insulation for 100%
of exterior wall surface - increase by a minimum of R-3.8
- $900 — exterior wall
insulation for 80%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by a minimum of R-3.8
- $675 — exterior wall
insulation for 60%+

A minimum of 20 per cent of the total exterior wall area
must be insulated to qualify. The grant is based on the percentage
of wall area that is insulated and does not include walls between
individual dwelling units.
** In the case of a semi-detached or row house that is
an end unit, the grant amount for the insulation of exterior walls,
basement or crawl space walls is 75 percent of the amounts shown.
In the case of a row house that is a middle unit, the grant amount is 50
percent of the amounts shown.

Basement wall insulation — Ontario
Ontario homeowners can get Government of Canada grants
for increasing basement insulation value of their basement
exterior walls. Row homes and semi-detached
homes are also eligible: see note below regarding
row and semi-detached houses**.
Basement wall insulation grants are pro-rated depending
on percentage of wall covered. Basement wall insulation grants are also
pro-rated depending on wall type: see note
below regarding mixed wall types***.
Increase basement insulation by
more than R-23 and get:
- $1,250 — basement wall
insulation for 100%
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-23
- $1,000 — basement wall
insulation for 80%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-23
- $750 — basement wall
insulation for 60%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-23
- $500 — basement wall
insulation for 40%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-23
- $250 — basement wall
insulation for 20%+
of exterior wall surface - increase by more than R-23

- $625 — basement wall

Basement header insulation — Ontario
You can get Canadian government rebates in Ontario when you seal all of your
basement header area and increase the insulation value of your basement
header insulation.
- $125 — basement header insulation -
insulate 100%
of basement header area. R-value must be
increased by a minimum of R-20 (RSI 3.5)
Crawl space insulation — Ontario
Get Canadian government rebates when you increase the insulation
value of your crawl space exterior walls (see note above regarding row and
semi-detached houses**, and note
above regarding mixed wall types***).
- $1,000 — crawl space wall insulation -
insulate 100%
of exterior wall surface for an increase
of more than R-23
- $500 — crawl space wall insulation -
insulate 100%
of exterior wall surface for a
minimum increase of R-10
Floor above crawl space — Ontario
Or, you can get Canada ecoENERGY rebates when you insulate
the floor above your crawl space.
- $250 — floor insulation above crawl space -
increase insulation on 100% of the floor above a crawl space
by a minimum of R-24 (RSI 4.2)

Exposed floor insulation — Ontario
You can get government rebates in Ontario when you increase the
insulation value of your exposed floors.
- $190 — exposed floor insulation -
increase insulation on exposed floor
by a minimum of
R-20 (RSI 3.5)
A minimum floor area of 14 square metres
(150 square feet) must be insulated to qualify
– applies to overhangs and floors above an
unheated space, excluding crawl spaces.

Ontario rebates — conditions
Some conditions apply.

Home energy audit —
To qualify for Canada ecoENERGY grants
you must get an ecoENERGY home energy assessment
before and after upgrades to your Ontario home.
You will receive grants for improvements started
after your first audit.
- Renovations —
You can complete the improvements yourself or hire
an Ontario contractor. We recommend you retain copies of
all documentation including invoices,
receipts, photos and product literature to be sure you get
full credit for all improvements.
- Canada ecoENERGY —
You need to apply for Canada ecoENERGY grants
by completing your follow-up
(post-retrofit) audit by March 31, 2012.
Use the opportunity to complete as many upgrades as possible.
- Existing homes only —
Newly built Ontario homes occupied for less than six months
do not qualify for Government of Canada ecoENERGY
grants. Once a newly
built home has been occupied for more than six months, there is no limit to
how old a home can be to qualify for Canada ecoENERGY
rebates.
- Local codes & by-laws —
All improvements or renovations
must meet Ontario building codes and by-laws.
Pay special attention to the placement of vapour
barriers when adding insulation to the building envelope.
Before undertaking improvements
or renovations, find out about the appropriate
products and installation techniques to ensure that your home’s
building envelope and indoor air quality
will not be compromised.
- Higher efficiency —
To qualify for Government of Canada ecoENERGY grants,
any new equipment installed in your Ontario home
must have a higher efficiency than that of the original
equipment it replaces.
- Questions about eligibility —
If you are not certain about the eligibility of your Ontario house,
or any specific renovations you are planning,
you should request clarification from the Government of Canada.
Homeowners are responsible for clarifying that their house and
planned improvements are eligible for government
grants and rebates before undertaking any upgrade work
and related expenses.

Ontario rebates
Ontario homeowners can get cash back on their first
ecoENERGY audit with a Home Energy Audit
rebate from the Ontario government.
- Home Energy Audit program —
Rebate of up to $150 of the cost of your first
energy audit.
- Up to $150 —
To be eligible for an Ontario Home Energy Audit rebate
you must receive an ecoENERGY audit
from a certified energy advisor.
- You are not required to carry out a
renovation to your Ontario home to receive the Ontario
Home Energy Audit rebate.
- Your advisor applies for the Ontario
Home Energy Audit rebate on your behalf.
Canada ecoENERGY grants — Ontario
Ontario homeowners can qualify for
tax-free rebates
as part of the Government of Canada’s Economic
Action Plan.

Canada ecoENERGY grants —
Get rebates of up to $5,000 for home energy
improvements from the Government of Canada.

- You begin —
by completing an ecoENERGY assessment with a certified
energy advisor. The Ontario government provides a rebate of up to $150
of the cost of your first energy audit.
- Your advisor —
will apply for Canada ecoENERGY
grants on your behalf, after you have
completed your energy-efficient renovations
and your Ontario home has been re-assessed. You have until
March 31, 2012 to make some or all of the
improvements your advisor recommends for your Ontario home, and
complete a second audit.

Toronto HEAT
rebates
Toronto homeowners can qualify for up to $1,000 more for
insulating their attic, main walls and basements, through the City
of Toronto’s Home Energy Assistance Toronto
(HEAT)
program.

Toronto HEAT rebates —
Toronto homeowners get up to $1,000 for home insulation,
in addition to Ontario Home Energy grants,
for total grants amd rebates of up to $6,000.

- Qualifying renovations —
insulation installed in a Toronto home’s attic
(up to $200), exterior walls
(up to $500) and foundation
(up to $300).
- Energy audit —
a certified energy audit is required to qualify for grants and
rebates under the Toronto
HEAT
program, and the Ontario’s Home Energy
Savings program.
- Tax-free —
grant amounts are tax-free and are offered in addition
to Ontario government rebates.
- Limitations —
Toronto HEAT
program rebate amounts are in effect until March 31, 2011 and subject
to available funds.
Home Renovation Tax Credit
Many Ontario homeowners use “tax credit” to describe
a government grant program like Government of Canada
ecoENERGY grants.
The original Home Renovation Tax Credit
(HRTC)
expired in 2010.

2009 income tax credit —
The original
Home Renovation Tax Credit allowed families to claim a credit of 15 per
cent of home improvement costs, between $1,000 and
$10,000, on their 2009 income tax return. Each Canadian family
could claim up to $10,000 in home improvement costs,
for a credit of up to $1,350 per family.

2011 ‘tax credit’ programs —
Newer programs provide government grants of up to
$5,000 and more. And there’s no need to wait until
you’ve filed your annual income tax return to receive a
home renovation tax credit. Your tax-free grant
money will be sent within 90 days of your
follow-up energy audit.
