Home energy audit — Get ready
Before your Ontario
HomePerformance Energy Advisor visits,
you’ll need to prepare your home ...
- Extinguish wood burning fires
- Clean out ashes from fireplace and close dampers
- Close all windows and doors
- Arrange access to all living areas in the home
- Provide access to attic, crawl space, heating and cooling
equipment, or any other hard-to-reach areas
Be assured that information regarding the existence of
separate living suites in Ontario homes is not recorded
as part of the ecoENERGY audit process.
- Photos –
Your Ontario energy advisor will need to take photos of the outside and
inside of your home, for documentation purposes.
- Release form –
You must sign a homeowner release form permitting your advisor to
take the photos, to release your energy audit data to the
Canadian government, and to allow the Canadian government to carry
out quality assurance measures if the need arises.
- Homeowner –
To simplify all document signing,
the Ontario homeowner whose name is to appear on your government cheques
(both the Ontario Home Energy Audit rebate + Canada ecoENERGY grant)
should attend the first and second
energy audit visits. This can reduce the time you wait
for your government cheques to arrive in the mail.
- Questions about eligibility –
If you are not certain about the eligibility of your Ontario house,
or any specific renovations and improvements you are planning, you should request
clarification from the Governments of Canada and Ontario. Homeowners are
responsible for clarifying that their Ontario house and planned renovations
and improvements are eligible for an Ontario Home Energy Audit
rebate and Government of Canada ecoENERGY grants
before undertaking any renovation work and related expenses.
