for ecoENERGY grants

Canada ecoENERGY grants - 25% more

Building on its ecoENERGY Retrofit-Homes initiative, the Canadian government announced a $300 million expansion of the Canada-wide renovation grant program in January 2009.

Under the ecoENERGY Retrofit-Homes program, Canadian homeowners who improve their home’s energy efficiency can receive up to $5,000 in tax-free home improvement grants from the Government of Canada.

Qualifying energy-saving renovations include insulation, high-efficiency furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters, low-flush toilets, and Energy Star-rated high-efficiency thermal windows.

ecoENERGY grants – 25% more

Canada ecoENERGY grants

Starting March 30, 2009, Canadian homeowners participating in ecoENERGY can get up to 25% more grant money for each renovation they make, up to a maximum of $5,000 per household. The increased grant amounts are in effect from March 30, 2009, until March 31, 2011, subject to available funds.

In addition, homeowners who have already received a grant through the ecoENERGY program can now receive additional grants for making further energy-saving renovations to their homes. Homeowners must contact their energy assessment service provider to re-register in the program, and must make their additional renovations and improvements before March 31, 2011.

Ontario Home Energy rebates – 25% more

Ontario Home Energy Savings rebates

To qualify for grants and rebates from the governments of Canada, Ontario, and other provinces where available, homeowners must have an energy assessment on their home before beginning any energy renovation work.

This energy assessment provides a checklist of the most effective renovations, and helps homeowners understand the grant application process. It also determines each home’s energy efficiency level, as a starting point from which to measure improvements.

The province of Ontario continues to match the increased rebate amounts, dollar for dollar, for up to $10,000 in home renovation and improvement grants.

Homeowners who make energy-saving improvements get more than government grants...
Peter Moffatt, President of Building Insight Technologies

“Homeowners who make energy-saving improvements get more than government grants,” says Peter Moffatt, president of Building Insight Technologies, a leading Canadian energy audit company. “They save money in the long run by using less energy to heat and cool their homes, and help reduce pollution and greenhouse gases. That’s good for homeowners and good for Canada.”

Homeowners reduce energy use

According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), homeowners who participate in the ecoENERGY Retrofit-Homes initiative can reduce their home’s greenhouse gas emissions by approximately three tonnes per year, and save up to 25% or more on their home energy use.
